About Us

We are Mohan and Siew-lian Mathew, and we hope our new canine hydrotherapy facility will provide an accessible and vital service, particularly to dog owners in the local area.

Evie & Gem

For many years, we had two beautiful golden retrievers, mother and daughter, called Gemma and Evie. They gave so much to us and we would do anything for them.

When Gemma was five, our veterinarian diagnosed arthritis in her knee. As she got older, a degeneration of the nerves in her spine developed. This manifested in her ‘scuffing’ her hind paws (and eventually having difficulties using her hind legs). We were advised that she might benefit from hydrotherapy. In those days, the nearest hydrotherapy centre was quite a few miles away, often taking us an hour to get there. However, the time and effort was worthwhile; Gemma benefitted from the hydrotherapy treatment as we could see she was happier and more comfortable after each treatment.

Gemma’s journey with hydrotherapy was short, but we were glad to see the relief it gave her.  Because of our experience with Gemma, we started Evie on hydrotherapy before there were signs of joint problems.  Evie enjoyed her swims, the warmth of the water and the spa jets that gently massaged her. There would be an extra spring in her step during her walks the days following hydrotherapy sessions. Stiffness in the joints is a condition of old age and we believe hydrotherapy helped to maintain mobility and quality of life through her later years.

We were inspired by the experience of our girls to start our own hydrotherapy centre which is named after them. Both our girls are no longer here to enjoy the water therapy at the hydrotherapy centre (which they would have loved!).  However, the treatment is available for your dogs.

The Facilities

At the beginning of 2020, a commercial property in Hamsey Green became available and it was perfect – it even had parking available outside.  As the premises were refurbished and equipment installed, Siew-Lian started an accredited Level 3 course in Canine Hydrotherapy.  We installed both a hydrotherapy pool and aquatic treadmill so our doggy clients could have a combination of treatments.  Unfortunately, Covid-19 has delayed the renovations to the premises but, finally, now a year later, we are delighted to announce that we are ready to offer hydrotherapy services!

You can take a look at our refurbishment photo gallery here.

Do you have an ageing dog who is limping noticeably on his walks?   Is your middle-aged dog struggling to get up after lying down?  Has your dog had a leg injury and is not recovering as quickly as you hoped?  Would you like to keep your dog fit so she will have a better quality of life, for longer?  We are more than happy to answer these or any other questions.
